Sprout’s Sunshine is a flavourful plum with roots close to home. It was developed by Sprout Farms in Bon Accord, Alberta, not far from our own nursery.
It's yellow fruit has firm, yellow flesh and is semi-freestone, making it easy to enjoy fresh or use in processing and baking. It's flavour is nicely balanced flavour, combining natural sweetness with a pleasant touch of acidity.
Sprout Sunshine is a very good producer for us with reliable crops of medium-sized fruit, averaging 3–4 cm (about 1½ inches) in diameter. The plums ripen in late August and have good keeping quality after harvest, giving you a little extra time to enjoy the crop.
Growers Note: It is highly recommended that you purchase a Canada Plum or an American Plum to pollinate our Hybrid plums, as they are self-sterile. Plum trees like fertile, well-drained soil. They should be planted at least 3-4m (12-15 feet) apart, and fruit can be expected around 4 to 6 years of age.
