Chermesina Willow – A Showstopper in Every Season
The Chermesina Willow is a stunning ornamental tree prized for its vivid orange-red branches that light up the landscape, especially in winter. Developed in Morden, Manitoba it’s perfectly suited to Zone 3.
This Chermesina Willow grows quickly and can reach up to 25 feet in height when grown as a full sized tree. If coppiced in early spring, it produces 2 meter (6-8 foot) rods in the growing season. However, most of these rods tend to develop side branches and are not suitable for basketry. Side branches can be cut off and used for colour effects in baskets. It's ideal for creating windbreaks, hedges, or as an eye-catching focal point in any yard. Its striking colour, paired with its hardiness and adaptability to a variety of soils, makes the Chermesina Willow a top choice for those looking to add year-round interest and resilience to their landscape.

Optimal planting distance for coppicing is 30 cm (12") between plants and 60 cm (24") between rows. Mulching and weed suppression are strongly advised for best results.
