The Breakey Apple is a beloved heritage variety released by the Morden Research Station in 1935 in Manitoba. It started as an open-pollinated seedling of the vintage Russian apple, Blushed Calville.

Breakey Apples are 6 cm (2.5") in size and bright red-over-yellowish-green striped in colour. Its soft white flesh is sweetly sub-acidic and lively with a note of spice, a combination that makes it delicious for eating fresh, baking, dehydrating and juicing. Ready to pick in early September, Breakey will keep one month in cold storage.
