Chizhovsky is a medium sized greenish yellow pear. Taste is sweet and aromatic with soft and juicy flesh that weighs around 140 grams. Fruit matures in early September and stores up to 3 months in cold storage. It is known to be a heavy producer. There are reports of Chizhovsky fruiting well in regions with cool summers. In Russia where it was developed, it is used as the standard pear that any new pear varieties are compared against.
Growers Note:
This is a newer variety that is growing in our orchards. It holds a lot of promise for colder climate growing and so far has done well for us. It may be worth trying to experiment with growing the Chizhovsky pear in zone 2 climates.
