The Beaked Hazelnut is Canada's most northern nut tree. The best choice for small yards, and the hardiest of all the Hazelnuts. This one will be a great addition for your food forest, orchard and excellent for your edible shelter belt.

Smaller in size compared to our hybrid hazelnuts, the Beaked Hazelnut makes a satisfying snack. The nut meat is rich and delicious in flavour. The husks turn brown around the middle of August and this is when you want to pick them.

The Beaked Hazelnut is a shrub with a narrow branching shape and a relatively low height, which makes it a good candidate to be grown in small spaces or yards. This is by far the hardiest hazelnut that we can grow.

Growers Note: Hazelnuts need to be harvested before the squirrels get to them, try checking by mid-August and harvest hazels when husks turn brown. Alternatively installing a metal fence around the bush might keep your nut stash safe as well.
